Commonwealth Video games Federation (CGF) on Tuesday introduced that Maldives Commonwealth Video games Affiliation has been re-admitted as one in every of its members, paving the best way for the South Asian island nation to compete at future editions of the Commonwealth Video games. The Maldives missed the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Video games as a result of Maldives authorities’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth in 2016.
“The decision for the re-admission of the Maldives was accredited in a vote of the 71 Commonwealth Video games Associations (CGAs) in August 2020, that means that the Commonwealth sporting household grows to 72 nations and territories,” CGF stated in a press release.
“The CGF decision comes after the Maldives Authorities’s utility for re-admission to the Commonwealth was accredited by Commonwealth Heads of Authorities and introduced by the Commonwealth Secretariat earlier this 12 months,” it added.
Maldives has competed in eight editions of the Commonwealth Video games, starting in Edinburgh in 1986 and most lately in Glasgow in 2014.
CGF President Dame Louise Martin, in a letter to Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Maldives CGA, stated she is delighted to verify the re-admission of Maldives.
